Platform truck changes

  • I have a few suggestions regarding platform trucks. My first is to rename then ladder trucks. My second is to move them into a new section called “ladders” along with the quint and have a few different ladder sizes. For example, quint=60 feet, ladder 1=100 feet, tiller=120 feet. My reasoning for this is because of the new urban specialization which could have tall buildings like skyscrapers that may need a tiller to reach a certain height

I get the fact it adds more realism... It also complicates things. Since a skyscraper does not have a defined height on the game, a quint or platform performs the same function. They also implemented a tiller trailer option which performs the same as a platform truck.

  • Where do you stop when you get that customized though? There needs to eventually be a point where the details end.

Pierce has Quints that are "Ladders" 75 feet, 100 feet, 107 feet and Quints that are "Platforms" which are 100 feet, and 110 feet.

Well for the quint you could have 2 variations of 75 and 100, especially since it carries water while the ladder could be 110 and 120, then the tiller could go up to 200. Yes it would probably cost more but having different variations would add more for people who do RP with their stations

Plus also we have like 6-7 versions of an engine(woodland included) so I think there can be more types of ladders, could also become the first truck that you could customize before buying

What's stopping you from currently labeling them as different length ladders and quints and RP'ing what a certain mission may require?

This is a super underrated comment.

The beauty of this game is that your imagination is really the limit.

As I recreate counties in Wisconsin, many have multi purpose UTVs due to the terrain in north-central Wisconsin. I can make an EMS UTV with the Fly Car that responds to rural calls near its' station, acting as the first responder until EMS transport arrives, and for departments who don't have that service I can make Utility Trucks with Storage for whatever might be needed. These units aren't often needed but I can simulate them effectively with the custom unit & ARR.

Additionally, since the EMS Chief doesn't treat patients but Rapid Response Vehicles in my region do, I just label specific Fly Cars and EMS Chiefs that would be the RRVs as such, and then the ARR has a button to push that dispatches 1 Rapid Response Vehicle. In reality it is two units, but for the sake of simulation, its 1.

I can go on and on, its the little things that make this game so fun, and asking the devs to allow us to edit the length of platform truck ladders, well that's just going to be more money out of our pockets because they are going to have to retool several missions so they have building heights. It's way easier to just do it yourself.

  • The only change that should come is the amount of firefighters in a platform truck. 3 firefighters isn't much realism.

I agree, depending on the functions in different department's most ladders/trucks would be staffed 4-6 personnel. The Quint (Tiller) I was on we had 5 personnel

  • Well yes you could do that but that takes the fun out of having a ladder. The whole point of my idea is to add actual realism to the ladders, not fake realism.

I don't think forcing further requirements onto the rest of the player base would be a popular decision. Remember at the end of the day this is still a game, and having a bunch of variations of a single unit type can be very confusing to players.

Well yes but we already have that confusion with engines so there really is no limit as to what can happen. Like I said before, if we can have 7 different types of engines then we can have 4 ladders

In real life, NFPA designates those 7 types of engines, so they are carried over to here. There are really two types of aerial units: those with on-board water/pump capacity (quint); and those without that capability (platform/ladder/tiller ladder).

LA County, iirc, has both tiller and 'standard' quints in their arsenal. With the 3 options presented in the game (quint, platform, and tiller trailer), any need for an aerial can be met.

I use different graphics for each of my aerials to 'distinguish' them. That is one way to accomplish what you want.

I can't see the devs actually factoring in any type of height for the Skyscraper POI, it isn't necessary.
