Should Mission Chief add National Guard?

  • Should Mission Chief add National Guard?

Interesting question. What brought it to mind? Do you think it could be added in a way that benefits players & improves gameplay? Do you have any specific suggestions for this type of change? Suggesting a feature without any explanation might not come across very well, as players cannot see your vision unless you spell it out for them. Try adding some more detail & context, and see what discussion you can generate.

  • I can somewhat understand where this is coming from all though I'm not sure that there is a role as the game currently is. Traditionally, i the US, the states will activate the National Guard in times of disasters. NG units traditionally back fill or fill roles such as large area search and rescue, transportation of people out of affected areas in military vehicles, helicopter rescues/search and rescue. There are also other types of missions that active guard units perform especially in the world of WMD (Civil Support Teams and CERF-P teams come to mind) as well. I personally have multiple CST WMD teams across my game that I use in the role of HM/Foam units. I can see where you could add another layer of units similar to the Coast Guard units you already have (Create a National Guard base, allow it to just build search and rescue units, add a helicopter extension {maybe allow CG and NG air units to satisfy each other air missions and/or EMS patient transport}, and add a HM extension for mass decon, WMD events etc).

    Just my 2 cents......

  • Yes....I understand that during natural disasters such as wildland conflagrations, hurricanes, flooding or tornados (especially in Florida) and then Blizzards in the North, or maybe even riots, that the Guard is activated. However, the expense of adding the buildings, the units, personnel and training them to some of our set ups would be astronomical if you wanted to disperse them as reality. Then consider the frequency of use? How many times in a year in real life are they used in reality. Adding this and then having missions that happen multiple times daily would take away from the reality that some folks attempt to maintain. And lastly if those type missions start to generate randomly without you having the extensions (as currently happens with some extensions that were added, then that adds more missions you have to either ignore or complete by using coins.

    Just my one time opinion...

  • As Boden pointed out, it would be interesting to see how this would be implemented, natural disasters and major civil unrest events aren't something that happens often thank goodness. In the area I cover in Florida, it looks like an easy dozen NG guard armories I would have to build. The return on them would be minimal unless they were used in alliance-created missions. I just don't see the payout as being worth it.
