Does anyone know when or how missionchief updates roads and the routes? I have new housing plan and a newer hospital and on and off ramps update to highway (near me) that the map overlays are showing the roads how they currently are but the vehicles take the old roads or avoids the new roads.
Map route updates

There needs to be a feature that updates the map, (i am experiencing the same problems)

This is not a game issue. There is no way of the game updating maps because it uses Open Street Maps which is an open source mapping program. Think of it like a Wikipedia for maps. If you want to, you can create and account here and update the map of your local area yourself.
This also affects the speed of the vehicles as you can assign roads a speed limit through the maps.
Please note however that vehicles in the game will take the shortest route distance wise and not always a route that may be quicker IRL. Also if you are going to edit the map please note that OSM is used for other applications and not just this game so you may get in to trouble and your edits removed on the OSM side if you unrealistically make things but that is nothing to do with the game.
Once edits are made and saved thy will take anywhere from a few hours to a few days to appear in game.
You can find OSM here https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=5/54.910/-3.432

They dont always follow new routes in the game, there are several instances in manchester of this, they use old routed that don't exist anymore

As I say this is not a game issue but an issue with OSM. OSM checks the route and path finds. You will have to go onto OSM and make sure that it has been removed from all 4 variants of the maps because there are 4 types of maps on OSM.

Will try and screenshot an instance of this happening

I know that when I have an incident at Sizewell, Aldeburgh goes up to Thorpeness and then along trails to get there because the game recognises them as roads.
-
One example is near Manchester airport, there are some newish dual carriageways, which are still not on satellite Google maps. The game doesnt recognise them, instead sending the units on the old road, which now doesnt exist.

You got any pics?

I have the same problem. Where they took two near interchanges right next to each other and combined them into one. But they still use the old roads

I had a bizarre one the other day. Big fire at a power station in Pembroke, West Wales. Batt Chief attended from the station across the water by going in a direct line rather than the roads that everything else used. Strangely, when loaded ambulances left, they did the same, but everything else went back on the roads.
-
This is a completely different bug. It's when you dispatch a huge 'clump' of units at the same time, the game doesn't know what to do, so sends them in a straight line.
-
That seems to be a common problem with the route finding. The game counts those units as close but it doesn’t take in to account the actual driving time so it goes straight. It happens to me with Harwich and Felixstowe

All the other units i sent went the correct way down the road. Only the batt. chief on the way there and the ambulances when transporting did something different.

I have had my units go in a straight line when responding to limited access highway is usually when it happens but it is rare when that happens for me.

Will the game ever use google maps on top of the maps it already uses?

most likely not due to the high cost associated with using google maps
