ALS training for police personnel

  • Not sure if this is in the works or not but since EMS is just about done after months of updates I'd like to bring up ALS training for police officers. Even tho they can already treat for basic care maybe have ALS training as though they have an ALS bag in their squad car.

  • Not sure how often officers in the USA are trained to ALS standard - in the UK it's only firearms and some PSU officers who are trained as Police Medics. Not totally sure it would be worth introducing but it's an idea at least.

It's an idea however the provision of ALS can only be provided by EMS in most instances in the UK, only paramedics and above can become ALS providers.

  • There are some agencies where EMS is actually run by the Police Department when I was in paramedic school I interned at one. Still, this is probably not hugely popular at least that I'm aware of and despite having worked in a system where this happens I still think that if I were an admin for the game I'd be hesitant to add this feature. At some point we're eventually making things too easy by having one unit being able to do so many multiple things.

  • ALS training for fire has been in the cards for EMS for some time. It is unlikely it will be added in the near future as we are taking a break from the EMS side however when we do police could potentially be considered if players want to see it.

An organisation called ATACC provides clinical governance and training to roughly Intermediate Life Support level and Trauma to a lot of Firearms, PSU and Roads Policing divisions across various forces in the UK. They're a brilliant training group who are basically trying to standardise training across the UK working with the police medics and police governing bodies. ILS is a level between the patient transport BLS and the full paramedic provided ALS.

I would love to see fire get training for it since sometimes a fire station is closer then an ambulance station

There were talks at some point of EMS training for fire personnel later down the line.

  • Build the ambulance extension.

This isn’t for ambulances. A lot of the time in the US you have ALS Fire vehicles that act as first responders (one of the biggest departments to do this is the LAFD). So if you call 911 for a medical emergency, the first vehicle to arrive may be the nearest engine whose crew are ALS trained so they can start ALS treatment until the arrival of the ambulance who can then just transport.
