I love that we can make pictures for our stations but i think there should be an option to see aliance members building pictures aswell

And they shouldn't appear on the map. I added a photo and it covered half the map when I was above the hall.

No. Pictures, we can add pictures to our halls and trucks. However they cover the map when something you've uploaded a picture of is on the map.

Above is the only place I am aware of that allows you to upload a custom image relating to your vehicle. It's to change themap icon from the default red square to something else. If you're uploading a large image as an icon then of course it will fill the map as there is no specified limit on icon sizes. Is there somewhere else?
To my knowledge these are only visible by the player who owns that unit and to anyone else they will see the default icon (at least the case when I last tested it), hence the reason for the OP.
You won't see the above option if using a graphics pack.

The only option to upload an image is to select an icon for that particular station or vehicle. However, the size of the image you use is the size that it will show up on the map, so you have to make sure that it is scaled correctly. Here's what I've done with my stations:

Click on a truck, click the edit, at the bottom it says Photo without emergency lights and below that is Photo with emergency lights. That is where you can upload photos of the trucks. Plus you can do the same to stations. However it covers the entire map or half of it.

In essence it's not for an actual photo but a map icon. If you are uploading a large image here you will end up with a large map icon.
