Vehicle/Unit Customization

  • It would be nice to see an expansion of the vehicle system and allow for more customization.

    Current System:
    Type 1 Fire Engine
    Type 2 Fire Engine
    ect...

    Suggested System

The first change that would have to be made is to correct the terminology used in the apparatus. Type 1 and Type 2 fire engines refer to a definition based on the US Forestry Service and their capabilities in wildfire, not as specific to your typical fire service. I would suggest following NFPA 1901, the standard on fire apparatus for determining the minimum specifications of a truck. So using this updated definition set you then would purchase your apparatus. It would automatically have to meet the minimum requirements as set by NFPA 1901.

The apparatus types would become the following:

Pumper (Minimums: 300 gal tank, 1 straight 1 extension 1 attic ladder, 250 gpm pump.)
Initial Attack Apparatus (Minimums: 150 gpm pump, 200 gal tank, 1 12ft ext ladder.)
Mobile Water Supply (Minimums: 1000 gal tank, 250 gpm pump,
Aerial Apparatus (Pump: Optional, Tank: Optional, Ladders: 1 attic, 2 straight, 2 extension)
Quint Apparatus (Minimums: 300 gal tank, 1 straight 1 extension 1 attic ladder, 250 gpm pump. Aerial length and config)
Special Fire Apparatus (Minimum: Chassis design)

Once you select your apparatus for its base price (providing minimum ability to the apparatus) you can choose to change options on it. The options would be able to either boost the apparatus ability to complete a call quicker, or debuff the chance of needing other apparatus on a call.

Example: Pumper is required to have 1x extension ladder, however via optionals could choose to have 1x 35ft extension ladder and 1x 24ft extension ladder, thus it debuffs the chance to need an aerial apparatus on scene of a roof fire.

Customization Options would include the following:

Chassis: SUV, Truck, Commercial Cab, Cab Over, Ambulance, Sedan, Coupe (changes cab selection available)
Cab: 2 - 6 person cab design. (Effects speed of call, debuffs chance to need second apparatus)
Pump Capacity: How many GPM a pump is able to put out. (effect speed of call)
Tank Capacity: How much water the tank holds (debuffs chance to need water tender on "wilderness calls")
Aerial Ladder Config: Platform, Straight Stick, Snorkel (Platform serves as all purpose ladder truck, straight stick serves for roof fire, however chance to need platform, snorkel not capable of rescue)
    Equipment:
-Ladders: Additional capibility and reach (reduced chance to need aerial)
-Preconnects/Hose Size: How much water is able to be extinguished by crews. (reduced call time)
-Special Equipment: Gas meters, Hazmat Suits, Foam, Thermal Imaging Cameras, RIT Equipment, ALS/BLS Medical Equipment, Extrication Equipment, Command, MCI, Rescue Equipment. (determines if a unit is able to handle specialized calls.)

This is just a small sampling of what could be done with this. Each option would add price to the apparatus with the return of a more multipurpose apparatus that can handle larger calls but at a higher price. The reason speciual apparatus does not have a minimum is that it could be used to create anything from a heavy rescue squad to a command car. This system could also expand into the police, ambulance, and even flight units.

The last thing I would add is the ability to upload an image for the apparatus, unlike what is currently existing this would not show on the map, however if anyone in the alliance clicked on the apparatus page they would then be shown a unit with the details of its capabilities.

I am sorry if I am confusing anyone with this suggestion, and understand that it is a barebones look at what I imagine the real verison could be. If you have any questions please ask and I will try to explain myself better.

    Thank you!

  • I like the idea, but the only problem I have with it is that if this is added into the game it will cause people to have to delete and re-buy all of there vehicles this might not be so bad for beginners that have
Less than 3 stations but anybody that has 11 or 13 or even more stations this will cost way to much.

  • This is way too complicated. Honestly if this is barebones I'm more afraid of the full version. Most of us are quite happy with the game as it stands.

The depth wouldnt change in the concept, but the details of what modifications are avalible and behind the scenes stuff would.

As far as adding this to existing units, i am not sure how that could be handled, but there could be a way other than rebuying all units such as credits given for existing units to cover costs or leave the existing stuff in until it is replaced by the user.

  • i think an upgrade system like hospitals would work well
so there is a list of upgrades that you can choose from but you only have a limited amount of slots
example a type 1 has 3 or 4 upgrade slots it comes with a pump and a small water tank you then can you fill you upgrade slots
so you could have a rescue based fire engine so you would choose Basic Rescue (1 slot)(removal of trees) Basic HAZMAT (1 Slot)(reduces the hazmat Requirement) Vehicle Rescue (1 or 2 Slots)(Replaces Heavy rescue at car related calls) and one other
im making a table for it so give me an hour and it will be up

  • I think this system is a good concept, but it is not going to happen anytime soon. The shsyem would take a while to implement. Personally, i would like to see this be a part of missionchief eventually, as well as training courses that reduce the time incidents take to complete (Fire 1, Hazmat Ops) but things like those are far out in the development timeline

  • thanks for your input guys i will be posting a redo of the chart adding police and ambulance units and some units not added in the game

I like the idea and the chart. Just wondering why the quint and platform do not have basic command?

due to space restrictions on these units i know here in aus we have a larger style brittish lader and yhere are only 2 or 3 quints here in america they might have that.

    I like this idea!!

thanks i know there are alot of departments that have trailers like this due to buget and staffing problems

It might be nice to have a new building that we can build for 500K that would reduce the prices of the upgrades, it could be a work shop

i like the idea the way i see it is you buy the vechile and it comes with the basic so almost what it is know and the only thing you can change when buying it is off road or not and then depending on the unit one some other things and then any upgrades after that would cost between 1,000 credits and 30,000 credits plus the training of staff

Please continue to share your thoughts and ideas i am compiling these ideas and i will make changes to the table

  • this is the list i will have up in the next 48 hours

  • Alright, to keep this thread a bit more organized, I will be linking to a google document spread sheet in the first post that will serve as the "official" suggestion for apparatus, including information provided by leutmatho and other suggestions.

@leutmatho send me a PM with your email and i will give you edit rights to this document.

Also to your sheet above, I will be editing some of the unit types that are there, mainly combining the redundent ones, for example a platform is an aerial as well as a ladder truck, just different styles, thus that would be an option. Keep the ideas coming.

    EDIT:

Also instead of an upgrade "slot" type system, I think it would be better to be based on money atleast for the main and required components of the truck, for special equipment I understand the thought process of using slots so that a player cannot create a truck that is capable of all types of calls. Things like pump volume, tank capacity, ect that are required components of the truck should be more expensive to buy for better options but not use a upgrade slot.

basically what i was thinking is you get the vechile what comes with doent take an upgrade slot the apgrade slots are for additional equipment so you want to make a rescue engine so you buy a basic type 1 that comes with 4 upgrade slots it would be like this
    Rescue engine
comes with a pump, water tank small, fire fighting equipment basic, than you can add 4 additional things so for a rescue engine you would add
    Slot 1-Basic rescue
    Slot 2-technical rescue
    Slot 3 and 4-vechile rescue

So you get the basic things to classify it as say a engine then you can add additional things to make it a rescue engine or paramedic engine ect

  • Yes to this i agree, but the basic things that classify it as an engine would also be upgradeable to better versions without using an upgrade slot ... IE 300 GPM pump can be upgraded to 1500 GPM pump
