Sea King help

  • Very old and classic video but should hopefully show you. I wish they were still in use today, but the AW189s and S92s are pretty cool too.

    Cheers.

Weird. I'm quite sure i saw the orange rotating beacon somewhere, which was under the fuselage somewhere...

+maybe you can help me with where to find the callsigns of old RAF, RN SAR helis?

eg. Rescue 1,2 /or donno what it should be/

    thanks.

  • Some beacons are red, some are white, but they are never orange. I don't know the callsigns but I found a map from a few years ago (pre-Bristow contract) with locations.

    Valley - RAF (SK)

    Boulmer - RAF (SK)

  • Some of those are very old. Not sure when Lakenheath last operated C-130’s but it certainly wasn’t in the last 25 years. They last their SAR Helicopters in 2014 (or sometime around then) when they moved to Aviano Italy. But even then they weren’t ever part of the U.K. SAR network and where US assets

  • More likely is that you saw the red anti collision beacon on the bottom of the helicopter. All aircraft have them; one on top and one on the bottom
