Thought I would just raise this with others... 
What's the reasoning behind the requirements for the 'burst water main' mission?
For a burst water main, it just seems like a waste of resources that could be used elsewhere. I'm not sure how other countries work, but here you would get no where near as many units... 
Burst water mains are dealt with by a government organisation (not an emergency service) here, with police to direct traffic - depending on the severeness of the incident, sometimes a fire truck can also be dispatched (2 for an extreme situation). Never would you see anymore than 2 fire trucks, and you would never see heavy rescues or battalion chiefs.
To summarise... Police cars are often on scene to help direct traffic, but the fire service is rarely used.
So I'm wondering if a burst water main is handled differently elsewhere? Or has there been a mistake, should the call have been something else?
