Different types of hoses

  • Thread moved to off-topic discussion.

Here in the US Different hoses are categorized by width (in inches) for the sake of delivering more water volume. We use different nozzles to deliver different streams (straightline, fog, smoothbore, etc). Friction loss of gpm is also accounts din different types of hose.

  • Going off the UK (Aus vehicles are very similar)

The hose reel will be the quick attack hose that is already preconnected to the vehicle and the branch

The delivery hoses will be various diameters. These will be either roled up or layed on a hose bed. These will be used for supplying the vehicles and as main jets.

Suction hose is used to supply the engine with water from an open water source such as a river.

I would imagine by adaptors it means adaptors to connect either to different diameter hoses or connections.

Basket goes on the end of the suction hose to stop things such as sticks and debris being sucked up into the pump.

Branches will be the various nozzles that the firefighter will attach to the end of the hose.

Unsure on correct definition. Possibly similar to Storz

Standpipe and Key is used to open and take water from underground hydrants.

Strainer. Unsure possibly similar to the basket.

I may be wrong but keys to lock and unlock connections between hoses etc.

    Equipment used for testing hydrants?
