My units are routing across rivers, bays, and inlets instead of going around them. As convenient as it might be to drive on water, we're not there yet irl and I feel like I'd need to be at least a Deputy Chief to unlock the driving on water feature.

If your units are driving on water, something is probably being detected as a road. Im no developer but i dont think thats really something that can be fixed. Because if a mission spawns far enough off a road, your units wont even try to find a proper route

No, it's not something that can be fixed. If this happens, one of a couple of things could cause this:
- If you have dispatched a lot of units at once, some it may just route in a straight line rather than use the roads around the bay, or lake etc., as there is a lot of information for the game to process for each unit - this can also happen with units travelling in a straight line on land too.
- If it is a particularly long way around the water by road, it will also just route straight across because it would take the game a lot longer to figure out the best way by road around it.
- Or, there are ferry lines that the game has picked up and the game is routing the unit on these instead of roads (it's just how OSM works - it can't distinguish between roads/ferry lines etc.!). -

It's happening also on some grounded locations when the game spawn a mission on a isolated trail.

I don’t think the water boats should unlock at deputy chief. This is because it may be realistic irl but really, you need the required amount of stations to spawn any of those missions. There are so few anyways that it really doesn't matter. Honestly, you won’t profit until you get enough stations so...

It's a combination of things that can lead to it.
1 units decide to take a straight line to the call hence traveling over water.
2 to my knowledge the game treats water way routes as roads to if I get a call spawn on a water way the vehicles will drive to the port and travel over the water route to the location.

I’m sorry, I definitely do not agree. It just doesn’t make sense for this game. This game is mostly realistic. That would defeat everything this game is like.

for the first one, I don’t really get why you’d want the boats to go around instead of through the quickest route of water.The second one is like the dealbreaker there. That cannot be implemented. Like, cannot. I like the idea input though.

I understand now. I generally don’t care. I still like that feature though. This game is not fully realistic and it’s a good Laugh. I don’t wish to change this as all it does is add more time for routes and same for boats going on land...
I’d keep it, but if the devs want to put a toggle on it, I’m fine with that too. The whole idea and concept I think is just something to bring up in the way future. There are many more things to change and add as of now and these kind of functions are just not worth the development time at this time.

Agreed. The purpose of the thread was to point out that it's not realistic when my engines drive across water, and the second part was a joke about if it is going to be a thing, I should have to unlock it because it's too convenient.

It isnt. Before we released that i asked the community and said what would happen and if people would still like to see it. They said yes so they were implemented. Its always been known before the update was released that this would happen.
