Missed Opportunity

  • I got really excited today seeing the Monday mission of "Fire Line", expecting a new mission for the dozer and dozer trailer. Alas, thats not what this is.

So some suggestions - add another version of this mission that works around larger wildfires that requires a dozer, and call it something like a dozer line. These could be expanded to / followed up by the Large Rapid Wildfire.

It would be great to have these units have a purpose!

    Cheers!

  • The dozer is an optional vehicle that helps speed up the mission.

Not everyone uses the dozer (as it is specialised to only some areas). The only way to make missions requiring the dozer, would be to put the dozer under an expansion wall or else it would impact all the players who don't use the dozer.

  • Wildfires are already under an expansion, and in the areas of the country that wildfires are most common, bulldozers are a common fire fighting tool, especially among USFS / CalFire / Interagency Crews.

A few solutions though so that people out of the Western US don't need the unit if they don't want it:

Have the heavy operating machinery trained personel in station could be the requirement for those missions to spawn (like Hotshots). The code is already in the game, so it shouldn't be that hard to implement!

Couldn't the coding from the AU server for the Mounted police be put into effect here? On AU the Mounted police are only added to missions if the player has them available. Is there a possible way to put that into effect here on the US server?

This feature is being depreciated and wont be used anymore - It was asked about the other month for one of the vehicles from the wildland extention and the devs told EMS-Chief it wasn't possible, when asked further, it was said to be being depreciated.

I forgot about that, but again if you think about it without that option it is making some of these vehicles feel like they aren't needed in game or useless to those who have them. In my opinion the dozer working as a time speeder is a waste because there is a lot of missions it could be used for

I normally dont disagree with you, but on this i shall - considering the dozer has been around for over a year, thats a pretty lame excuse, also if it was just to speed up - it should be along the lines of 1 every 20 (15 with premium) wildland expansions like the other speed up units, also if it was just introduced then id kinda agree- because thats what happened to the MCC. And along the subject of required units - the original developer had certain units required at specific station levels - maybe new units added could be done that way.

This is not an "excuse" as you indicated.

The vehicle was originally developed as an optional unit.

There are vehicles created which are for the realistic player but are not actually required in the game (think of the Police Motorbike for example). As DragonBlade had said, it is not used in all jurisdictions, which is why it was brought on as an optional vehicle and used as a speed modifer. There are other vehicles that were brought in along those lines, I just can't recall them at the top of my head.

    Thank you,

  • The dozer isn't used in all jurisdictions is frankly an idiotic excuse.

Many US departments don't have a specific mobile air unit. Yet its required. Same as to the HazMat truck. And yet, it's required. Units should have a purpose, or they shouldn't be in the game.

AND the dev's have added methods into the coding for units / personell to not be required if they aren't in the player's setup. So it wouldn't cause issues.

Sorry, but the reasons I haven't heard are lame at best.

  • I have also said that I would like to see the dozer required as part of a major wildfire. I have dozers I send as EMS Chief says it speeds up the mission. I am sure it does, but it is hard to see. None of us are developers (especially me), so I would guess that if they say it is difficult to do, then we have to sit back and wait to see or just accept the fact that it is not going to happen. I would however, disagree that not all jurisdictions (in real life) have dozers. I can't and won't say for sure, but I believe each state has some sort of agency within the state government that is responsible for their forest management and I would almost bet money they have dozers... Some states more than others I am sure. I can tell you that I know all of the states in the Southeastern US have them. Thanks for the replies EMS Chief.
