I feel that this call is completely irrelevant, and should be removed from the game. Although I have plenty of vehicles, it still takes one out of service for a couple hours for no reason!
Smoke Detector Check

The call only lasts 15 minutes. Simply don’t send the vehicle until approximately the required time to respond is the same as the timer until the mission starts.
-
Thats a good point, thank you!
-
I don't understand why this call would have a 3 hour timer before the call runs. Any thoughts about this? I don't think its a special event or anything, so why the 3 hour wait time before the call runs to clear it?

It’s to simulate it being scheduled in advance. For example if you were to call the fire department (non emergency) and request a check.
-
I think instead of a smoke detector check it should be like a smoke detector going off... that could lead into a residential fire ... room fire .. etc
-
That would be Automatic fire alarm (AFA)
-
Typically, a fire sprinkler system/smoke detector check would be handled by the Fire Prevention division or by a fire inspector. I have never seen a in-service unit called out to check a system unless it was associated to an AFA as Kieran Wood pointed out.
-
Yeah, a pump would not be called out. maybe an utility unit or officer car in game, irl fire prevention van

Not necessarily true, I know I have seen a pump around me carrying out a fire safety check on a house, you can phone up and request one free of charge.
-
As TACRfan has stated you can phone up and request one. I know this is true because we preform this free of charge. We would rather have you safe and have you have a chance to get out than to have you die of smoke inhalation or be burned in a fire because you didn't have a working smoke detector.
-
Like I stated earlier,
Most departments in the US would have prevention or Fire and Life safety personnel handle. Especially if it is a planned event scheduled ahead of time. I believe many Volunteer departments might partake in this but most career departments wouldn't send an in-service suppression unit to handle such.
-
My department, we go out and install smoke detectors and check the batteries when people ask for our help. Makes us looks good while doing it.

Grand Rapids Fire Department goes house to house with on-duty frontline units when it’s fire safety month.

I didnt say this call shouldn't exist haha

To also note down, I have responded to these quite alot in rl, And they sometime lead to a residential fire or false alarm because of the detector not have been checked in a few years or it is not working properly. As far as a response goes for these types of calls its just an Engine or Truck Company depending on the 911 call, If its a Fire Alarm then its both an Truck company and engine company because that is on our response plan.
But i have seen different in some states. But i am not completely agreeing on this sim because their are different incidents with Smoke alarms / Detector check. But i will agree with @JohnnyPablo

Not exactly, we are that personnel. Lastly not exactly either we send an engine just like we would to any run except we don't run any code if of couse we get asked to check it but if it needs actually checked because of a possible fire then yes we run code also this applies to both Volunteer and Career departments both preform the same task.
